হুগলির যে পাড়ায় এই দোকান, সেখানেই দাঁড়িয়ে আছে ভারতের প্রথম বিনামূল্যের গণগ্রন্থাগার। চা খেতে এসেছিলেন — শহরটাও একবার ঘুরে যান।
The shop stands in a neighbourhood of Hooghly that holds the first free public library in India. You can come for the tea and stay for the town.

জমিদার জয়কৃষ্ণ মুখোপাধ্যায় (১৮০৮–১৮৮৮) হুগলির পাড়ে এটি গড়ে তোলেন — ভারতের প্রথম বিনামূল্যের গণগ্রন্থাগার, জনসাধারণের জন্য খোলে ১৫ এপ্রিল ১৮৫৯। নিজের তিন হাজার বই দান করেছিলেন। মাইকেল মধুসূদন দত্ত জীবনের শেষ দিনগুলি এখানেই কাটান।
Built on the bank of the Hooghly by the zamindar Jaykrishna Mukherjee (1808–1888) and opened to the public on 15 April 1859 — the first free public library in India. He gave it three thousand of his own books. Michael Madhusudan Dutt spent his last days here.

আলিপুর বোমার মামলা থেকে ছাড়া পেয়ে শ্রীঅরবিন্দ ৩০ মে ১৯০৯ তারিখে এই লাইব্রেরির মাঠে যে ভাষণ দেন, তা ‘উত্তরপাড়া বক্তৃতা’ নামে পরিচিত — তাঁর রাজনৈতিক জীবনের প্রায় শেষ ভাষণ।
Newly released from the Alipore Bomb Case, Sri Aurobindo spoke on the library grounds on 30 May 1909. It is remembered as the Uttarpara Speech, and it was close to the last address of his political life.

The shop's nearest neighbour and its most reliable custom. Classes five to twelve, taught in Bengali, and a rush at the counter when the last bell goes. School and shop sit in the same ward, number 18.

১৮৫৩ সালে তৈরি — পশ্চিমবঙ্গের প্রাচীনতম পৌরসভাগুলির একটি, ২৪টি ওয়ার্ড। মঞ্জুলার এনলিস্টমেন্ট সার্টিফিকেট এই পৌরসভারই দেওয়া, ক্যাটেগরি ‘স্ন্যাকস কাম টি, কফি সেন্টার’।
Constituted in 1853, one of the oldest civic bodies in West Bengal, with 24 wards. Manjula's certificate of enlistment is issued by this municipality, under the category “snacks cum tea, coffee centre”.

অ্যাম্বাসাডরের কারখানাThe Ambassador factory
উত্তরপাড়ার একটা গোটা পাড়ার নামই হিন্দমোটর — কারখানার নাম থেকে। ১৯৪২-এ তৈরি, ১৯৫৭ থেকে উৎপাদন শুরু। এখান থেকেই বেরোত হিন্দুস্তান অ্যাম্বাসাডর। কারখানা বন্ধ হয়ে যায় ২০১৪-র ২৪ মে। দু’প্রজন্ম ধরে এটা ছিল কারখানার শহর — আর চায়ের দোকানগুলো চলত শিফটের তালে তালে।
A neighbourhood of Uttarpara is named Hindmotor, after the plant. Built in 1942, producing from 1957, it was the home of the Hindustan Ambassador — India's taxi and India's government car for decades. The unit closed on 24 May 2014. For two generations this was a factory town, and the tea shops around it fed the shifts.

উত্তরপাড়া হুগলি নদীর পশ্চিম পাড়ে, ঠিক দক্ষিণেশ্বর কালী মন্দিরের উল্টো দিকে। হাওড়া–বর্ধমান মেন লাইনে উত্তরপাড়া স্টেশন, আর শহরের ভিতর দিয়ে গিয়েছে জিটি রোড। কলকাতা দশ কিলোমিটারের মধ্যে।
Uttarpara sits on the west bank of the Hooghly, directly across the water from the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. Uttarpara station is on the Howrah–Bardhaman main line, and the Grand Trunk Road runs through the town. Kolkata is within ten kilometres.
