The shop belongs to two sisters. On paper the proprietor is Isha Mukherjee — that is the name on the licence issued by Uttarpara Kotrung Municipality.

The name is a family one. Manju Mukherjee — wife of Jahnavi Kumar Mukherjee — is the Manju that Manjula grew out of.

সংস্কৃত শব্দ। মূল মঞ্জু (मञ्जु) — সুন্দর, মিষ্টি, কোমল, শ্রুতিমধুর, মনোহর। -লা যোগ হয়ে দাঁড়ায় ‘যিনি সুন্দর, শ্রীময়ী ও মনোরম’।
A Sanskrit word. The root mañju (मञ्जु) means beautiful, sweet, gentle, melodious, agreeable. The -la ending makes it “one who is beautiful, graceful and pleasing”.
মঞ্জু শুধু চোখের সৌন্দর্য নয়। কানেরও — মিষ্টি স্বর, নরম কথা, সুরেলা বলার ধরন। সৌন্দর্য, মাধুর্য, কোমলতা আর সাম্য, সব একসঙ্গে। এমন একটা শব্দ, যা চেহারাতেও খাটে, কণ্ঠস্বরেও, ব্যবহারেও।
Mañju is not only beauty you look at. It is beauty you hear: a sweet voice, a gentle word, a melodious phrase. So it holds beauty, sweetness, gentleness and harmony at once — a word that can describe a face, a voice, or the way someone behaves.
যে ভাষার জগতে এই শব্দ, সেখানেই থাকে ঋত — বিশ্বের শৃঙ্খলা। থাকে বাক্, শ্রী, মধু। মঞ্জু এদেরই পাড়ার লোক। শৃঙ্খলা থেকে আসে সাম্য, আর সাম্য থেকে সৌন্দর্য।
It belongs to the same vocabulary as rta (cosmic order), vak (speech), shri (radiance) and madhu (sweetness). Mañju is their neighbour: order gives harmony, and harmony gives beauty.
